Hi
I've unfortunately been unsucessful uploading a simple php file(the hello world php we did in class). Basically I get an error about permissions.
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /~ug29/public_html/1059/test.html on this server.
I am using a Mac machine with FileZilla. I did some tweaking with the file permissions, which so far haven't given me any luck. I imagine its something simple I'm missing?

Some more info would be helpful. For example what are the file permission settings right now for both the file test.html and for the directory public_html? You need to give read, write and executable for the owner and read executable for the public.
Also, note sometimes file permissions get screwy and the best thing to do is to delete the directory and file and start over with new FTP transfers.
*********** Don't forget to clear your cache in your browser ******* Many an hour has been wasted because you have the right permissions but your browser is pulling from a cache that is old!

Yea I am having the same issue. I have checked all the permissions for each folder as well as the files in the folder and the Owner has read write execute and others has read execute. When i try to access the site at www.sis.pitt.edu/~ug46/1059/index.html I am getting a forbidden error. I have also tried deleting the folder and starting over but it still is not giving me permission. help??

My suggestion is to make sure you go through every single file and folder in your directory and change the permission to 755. Then, make sure your index.php file is correct, because if it is not it will not display.

I had the same issue for a while basically I stopped using .html and made everything .php and I didn't have the issue again. Probably not the solution (or right solution) but it worked for me.
