I enter CREATE DATABASE my_company-ltd; and I keep getting this error: Access denied for user 'ug2'@'%' to database 'my_company_ltd'. Shouldn't I be able to create a database?

I believe Mark the sys-admin has limited our class to one database and that is the one named the same as your username. So if you run the command SHOW DATABASES it should present two of them. One is information schema which you don't want to touch and the other should be called the same name as your username. Ex ugxx
This should not be a problem because you can create as mant tables as you want in this database for the multiple projects in class - you just need to have good naming conventions for your tables and remember what they do
